Faster, lower power, smaller area — pick two, always.

Every decision in chip design trades off against three axes: Power, Performance, and Area (PPA). Pushing frequency higher usually costs power and often area (deeper pipelines); shrinking area can hurt performance or increase power density. Nearly every choice downstream is really a PPA negotiation.

Classic tensionHigher clock speed → more power, often more area (deeper pipelines).
Why it mattersA chip that hits its performance target but blows the power budget is just as much a failure as one that's too slow.
